Two California couples who are involved in a dispute over two frozen embryos may find out the fate of the embryos through mediation next month.

The couples have agreed to delay litigation to try and mediate a solution to the dispute. They will meet in Santa Barbara to lay down the groundwork for the agreement. One woman was implanted with two embryos from another woman; she had two twin daughters. She also adopted two more embryos at the same with the intention to try and give birth to the other frozen embryos. The two couple’s entered an “Embryo Adoption Agreement.”

The controversy began when the donor couple contacted the Reproductive Science Center saying that they wanted to regain custody of the embryos. Both couples have filed suits against the other couple, but will try and use mediation first.
